The organization brings together individuals from nine (9) Asian countries including Bangladesh, China, India, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines and Vietnam. The purpose is to nurture understanding of the traditional visual and performing arts and cultural values of the peoples of this diverse region. During the last thirty years, there has been a dramatic rise in the number of Asian Americans who have established themselves in Suffolk County, enriching the cultural diversity of this area of Long Island. The celebration on May 14, 2011 is our opportunity to share our rich cultural heritage with all Long Islanders.
The afternoon's entertainment includes multi-cultural booths, arts and crafts displays, vendor booths selling small items indigenous to countries represented. At 4:30 pm, the highlight of the afternoon activities will start with an awards ceremony for Distinguished Asian Americans presented by Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy followed by Induction of new AAAB Board members and Social Harmony Awarding ceremonies plus cultural dances, musical and vocal performances in the Wang Center Theater.
The event was also co-sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Holiday Inn Stony Brook, Taiwanese American Association of Long Island (TAALI) and Brookhaven National Laboratory along with several other corporate sponsors and guests.
